Basic Blackjack Rules for Beginners

Blackjack is becoming one of the most played card games online and in casinos.  It is actually played by millions all across the globe and others are dying to learn to rules of the game.  The rules of blackjack are easy and you just got to have a strategy to win.

In blackjack, your opponent is the dealer.  Your strategy will not be used against the other players on the table, but only towards the dealer.  The objective of blackjack is to have cards that will total to 21 or a bit lesser and must be higher than that of the dealer’s.  However, your cards should not exceed 21 or else, you’re busted, which means you lose.

For you to know the value of the cards that you’re holding, you have to sum up all its equivalents.  Here are the values of each card:

-       All face cards (King, Queen and Jack) – their value is 10

-       Ace – can either be valued as 1 or 11 and how you use it will depend on which one will give you a better hand

-       2 to 10 cards – these are counted on their face value.  For instance, 5 is valued at 5

The best card that you’ll ever get is when your cards total to 21 – this means that you have a blackjack.

After knowing the values of each card, the next thing that you should learn is the basic rules of blackjack.  Here are the steps:

1. Before you are given your cards, you must place your bet.

1. After all players have placed their bets, the dealer then distributes two cards to each player facing up.  The dealer, likewise, have two cards, but one card is faced down.

1. You are given a choice to either hit or stand.  Your decision will be based mainly on the revealed card of the dealer.

1. If you will have to hit, it means that you want another card and so the dealer gives you another one, but asking for a hit is so critical because it may either result to 21 or a bust. On the other hand, you must decide to stand if in case you do not have a desirable hand.

1. When all players have stopped hitting and they seem satisfied with their hands, it’s already time for the dealer to reveal the mystery card.  If the dealer’s card has a sum of less than 16, he needs to hit.

1. If the value of your cards is higher than the dealer, but is not more than 21, you win and get 1:1.  But if you have blackjack or the sum of your cards is 21, you get 3:2.

These are just basic rules and there are still advanced rules that you need to know, but it is recommended that you learn them after you have mastered the rules stated above.  You also have to study the different blackjack strategies in order for you to have greater chances of winning.
